Dreams & Visions

Do you ever dream? Do you remember your dreams? Has God ever spoken to you through a dream? I’ve been thinking about this lately since reading the life of Jacob devotionally, and particularly with his dream of the ladder to heaven.

“Surely,” Jacob whispered, “the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it!” He rose to his knees. “Why, this is none other than the house of God! And this,” he said, gazing upward, “is the gate of heaven.”

Do you ever dream? Do you remember your dreams? Has God ever spoken to you through a dream? I’ve been thinking about this lately since reading the life of Jacob devotionally, and particularly with his dream of the ladder to heaven.

There are many dreams recorded in the bible. Many visions of a monumental nature as well. Can you think of them?  Here are some:

-Daniel’s vision of the future.

-Isaiah’s vision of the Lord.

-Ezekiel’s vision of the wheels within the wheels.

-Peter’s vision of the sheet filled with animals.

-Pilate’s wife who dreamed of Jesus.

-The Midianite soldier’s dream of Gideon the loaf of bread.

-King Abimilech’s dream when he took Sarah as his wife.

-John’s vision of the Revelation.

-Paul’s vision of the third heaven.

-Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams of the statue and the tree.

-Solomon’s dream of God’s offer.

-The dream warning the Magi of Herod.

-Joseph’s multiple dreams: ‘take Mary as your wife’, ‘flee to Egypt’, ‘return from Egypt.’ And so on.

The Lord has used dreams to speak to me. Sometimes to clarify my current situation and other times to wake me up to pray for a person or situation I have dreamed about. It seems clear to me at times that my dreams are from God – so I record them in my diary and think about them.

How about you? Has God spoken to you in this way? It is one of the ways the Spirit uses to communicate to us.

Remember in Acts 2 when the Spirit alit on each of the prayer warriors, enabling them to give the gospel in the native tongues of those visiting Jerusalem. Peter quoted Joel when he said:

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord and Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Acts 2:17-21.

Dreams and visions are tied to evangelization. They are given for a purpose for the age we are living in. God is a communicator. How does He want to speak to you?

Just a reminder about the event supporting Israel to be held at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium at City Hall 32315 South Fraser way in Abbotsford.  I will speak for a few minutes at this event and invite you to join me.
